It’s time to get back in the saddle with the the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on Sunday 21 November 2010.
Phia Kotze, one of the owners of Kirkness Guesthouse in Pretoria will also be participating, and is offering a 15% discount to fellow Cycle Challengers. Our Special Rate for 94.7 Cycle Challenge participants is R255.00 per person sharing. We offer beautiful rooms with en-suite showers, Satellite TV with 7 channels, coffee and tea making facilities, and free WiFi.
Kirkness Guesthouse is approximately 49km from the starting point, and a mere 35minutes’ drive. The park and ride is easily accessible from the guest house, and you can avoid the heavy traffic that is in the Johannesburg areas.
For an extra R100.00 we will help you carbo load with lots of pasta and beer, and we will give a great protein breakfast to those cyclists that are aiming for a late start.
As one of South Africa’s largest sporting events, the cycle challenge provides not only an enjoyable event for the whole family but an elite bicycle race across the most bustling city in Africa.
More than 25,000 cyclists entered last year and an equally large, if not bigger, peloton is expected for this year’s race.
The new improved route for the race will highlight regenerated areas of the Jo’burg CBD. It will offer a challenging ride for serious cyclists and a visually entertaining and exciting route for the rest of the pack. Taking over the landmark iconic Nelson Mandela Bridge and the city’s highways with only pedal power will be a buzz for cyclists.
Commenting on Momentum’s title sponsorship and involvement with the Cycle Challenge, Dana Cooper, Momentum Group Brand Executive said: “We are hugely proud to be able to bring an event to life that energises and showcases the best of the City of Jo’burg and its people. It’s a great way to connect the people of Jo’burg, not just the cyclists, but the people who line the streets. This year Jo’burg residents have shown what great hosts we can be to international visitors and we are anticipating the same generosity of welcome to make the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge a flagship event for Jo’burg.”
The City of Jo’burg, along with the Taxi Association, has guaranteed a circuit with the freedom of road closures along the route, with minimal disruption to residents of the city.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and the Gauteng Department of Public Transport, Roads and Works have again pulled together to ensure that safety is placed first during the race. “Road closures will provide a safe and scenic route for cyclists to enjoy, through a dynamic and historic city centre, without impeding access for those using the city on the day”, confirmed Nthatisi Modingoane, Deputy Director of Communication for the City of Johannesburg.
