About the Afrikaanse Meisies Hoër

The Afrikaanse Meisies Hoër was established in 1920 thank to the wishes of many Afrikaanse parents who desired that an Afrikaans medium high school should be built.

The school started with 18 girls and 26 boys. During the first seven years of the school’s existence the school was held at the house of gen. Piet Joubert, Visagie Str. 218. Mr. Frank le Roux was the first headmaster of the school. When the school was unable to keep up with the new learners due to the limited space available a new school was erected at the current location.

On 25 November 1925 the cornerstone of the school was laid by gen. Hertzog and on 26 January 1927 the new school was officially instated.

In 1930 the school was split into two separate schools namely the Afrikaans Seuns Hoër and the Afrikaans Meisies Hoër.
